Director’s Note:
The Lieutenant of Inishmore” is one of the best-known works of Martin McDonagh, the acclaimed Irish-British playwright and filmmaker whose creations in the genre of absurdist black comedy have been staged worldwide and have earned him major honors such as the Laurence Olivier Award and a Tony nomination.
The story of this play presents violence, extremism, loneliness, and madness in a humorous framework—
a work that, despite its Irish roots, resonates strikingly with the social atmosphere of contemporary Iranians, touching on themes of migration, suppressed anger, opposition groups, and our fractured world.
The Iranian audience can easily identify with its situations, and leaves the theatre with a mix of questions, comparisons, and quiet smiles
